7 DAYS / 10 DIVES IN LEROS FROM 934€

Activity info

Leros – the Island of Artemis – is an island of untouched natural beauty and great harmony with a long coastline of 71 meters filled with beautiful pristine beaches. Along the coastal areas many large natural gulfs and bays have evolved as a result of intense sea activity along its shores. One of the most essential gulfs of Leros is Lakki, which is also one of the largest; naturally secure ports in the Mediterranean. During the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese, the Gulf of Lakki was used as a naval base because of its natural element. The other important gulfs are at Partheni with three successive creeks and another one at Belfouti. Both of them are protected from the north winds by the smaller islands of Stroggili and Archangelos that function as natural barrier.

Wrecks of planes and boats that participated in the Battle of Leros in 1943 form an intriguing underwater “museum”, as silent martyrs of the German determination to conquer Leros by all means.

Recent scientific research demonstrates the natural wealth of the seabed and adds another reason to dive in the clear waters of the island. There are valuable ecosystems to be found with rare underwater vegetation.

The second site is a large collection of metal rings and floats that composed the safety net at the harbor entrance of Lakki, distributed over the entire length of the port. The visibility is excellent and it offers a rich underwater world.

This barge ship was used for the preparation and placement of the impressive anti-submarine protective net, which secured the entrance of the harbor. Extremely clear blue waters and rich marine life. The British Landing ship probably sank after the war. The turret of the commander is still intact. Damage to the hull front and starboard testify that it was hit by grenade fires.

Many soldiers were killed while thers made it and found refugee on the small island Strongili. Grenades, weapons and personal equipment of soldiers are scattered around the wreck on the sand. The second wreck was also victim of the merciless bombardments of the German Air force. Probably served as accommodation for officers.
