At the south of Paxos and within a walking distance from the cliffs, you can find the petrified forest. In that area of Ionian Sea there were volcanic activities. In special circumstances where the lava covers a forest and freezes very quickly, the molecules of the wood instead of burning chemical processes are converted into stone and main quartz.
