Enjoy a little piece of recent local history on this dive. In 2008 some 60 immigrants from Libya travelling by wooden boat became stranded at Ilingas beach. The voyagers were rescued and the boat taken to the port of Sfakia where after 9 months the boat sunk inside the port! Notos Mare Dive Centre raised it by crane and moved it to the place where it is sleeping now. Chosen as a final resting place because the location had no natural hiding places for marine life, an artificial reef has been created, where marine life has made the boat their new home. Thousands of red snappers, barbs, lobsters, octopus and other sea creatures now explore the wreck alongside our divers. – DIVE UPLOADED by NOTOS MARE DIVING CENTRE
